Why mornings are hard

You have already made many choices before you open your own wardrobe. What will the children eat? Where is the other shoe? Is the bag packed?

By the time you dress, you are tired of choosing and you have no time. So you grab the same old thing. That is normal. The fix is to choose earlier, or to choose less.

Choose the night before

This one step helps the most.

  • Pick your outfit when the children are asleep.
  • Hang the full outfit in one place, with the shoes below it.
  • Check the weather for tomorrow first.

In the morning you just put it on. No thinking.

Keep three go-to outfits

A go-to outfit is one you can wear without thinking. Have three.

  • Taking the kids to school. Dark jeans or stretch pants, a plain top and a jacket.
  • The work day. Dark pants, a knit top and a blazer. Or a simple dress and a cardigan.
  • The weekend. Soft pants, a T-shirt and an overshirt.

Buy the same top in two colors if it works. Nobody will notice, and you will always have a clean one.

Pick clothes that are kind to you

ChooseWhy
Dark colors and printsThey hide food and stains.
Knit and stretch fabricsYou can bend, lift and sit on the floor.
Clothes you can machine washThey will get dirty. Often.
Fabrics that do not wrinkleYou do not have time to iron.
PocketsFor keys, phone, tissues and snacks.
Flat shoes you can slip onYou will carry a child and a bag at the same time.

Make your wardrobe smaller

If half your wardrobe does not fit or needs ironing, it only slows you down. Put those clothes in a box for now. Keep in front of you only what fits and is ready to wear.

Fewer clothes means faster mornings. Our guide to decision fatigue explains why.

One small thing that makes you look ready

Add one finishing item. A watch, earrings, a scarf or a belt takes ten seconds. It makes a simple outfit look planned.

Let an app choose

If even choosing the night before is too much, let an app do it.

Ukti is our app. You take photos of your clothes one time. Every morning it gives you one outfit from them and tells you why it works. You do not scroll or compare. You just get dressed.

You can also tell it about your day, by voice or by typing. For example: "I take the kids to school, then I have a work meeting at ten."

Ukti sends one reminder a day, at the time you pick. So you can see your outfit before the morning rush starts.

Common questions

How can I get dressed faster in the morning?

Choose your outfit the night before and put it in one place. Keep three go-to outfits you can wear without thinking. Wear clothes that do not need ironing.

What clothes are best for parents of small children?

Clothes that are easy to wash, stretch a little and hide stains. Dark colors, prints, knit fabrics and pants with pockets all help. Keep clothes that need dry cleaning for days without the children.

Can an app pick my outfit for me?

Yes. Ukti gives you one outfit every morning from the clothes you have photographed, and tells you why it works. Many other closet apps suggest a few outfits for you to choose from.
