Why is it so hard to choose?

Most mornings you have enough clothes. The problem is that every item could be the answer. And you are choosing while you are still sleepy.

Looking at photos online does not help. Those outfits use clothes you do not own.

So make the question smaller. Do not pick a whole outfit. Pick one item first. Then let that item pick the rest.

Five easy steps

  1. Check three things. What is the weather? What is the most important thing you will do today? Will you walk or stand a lot?
  2. Pick one main item. Choose the item your day needs, like a blazer for a meeting or shoes for rain. Or choose the item you most want to wear.
  3. Build around it. Add one item in a different color. Keep everything else plain.
  4. Use three colors at most. Count your shoes too. Black, white, gray, navy and beige go with almost anything.
  5. Stop. Change only if something does not fit or is not clean. Trying a second and third outfit is what makes you late.

Quick answers for common days

  • Office day with one big meeting. Dress for the meeting. Take off one layer for the rest of the day.
  • Working from home with a video call. Wear a plain top with a collar or a neat neckline. Small patterns can look strange on camera.
  • Rainy day. Choose your shoes first. Wear dark colors on your legs.
  • Hot day. Wear loose cotton or linen. Wear light colors near your face.
  • Dinner right after work. Wear your dinner outfit under a work jacket. Leave the jacket at the office.

Keep two or three go-to outfits

A go-to outfit is one you can wear without thinking. For example: dark pants, a light shirt and a jacket. Or a plain dress with a jacket.

People who always look good are not inventing a new outfit every day. They repeat a few outfits that work. Write yours down. On a bad morning, wear one of them.

Can an app choose for you?

Yes, if it uses your own clothes and gives you fewer choices, not more. There are two kinds of app.

The first kind is a closet app. You add your clothes. The app suggests outfits, often a few at a time, and you pick one. Some also let you plan outfits ahead of time. These apps are good if you like choosing.

The second kind chooses for you. Ukti is our app, and it works this way. You take photos of your clothes. Every morning Ukti gives you one outfit from them, in a picture of you wearing it, and tells you why it works. It uses AI to look at your photos and choose. You can also tell it about your day, by voice or by typing.

Do you need an outfit for a special day? Ukti can also build three outfits from your closet for the occasion.

Common questions

What should I wear today if I feel I have nothing to wear?

Pick one item that fits well and is clean, like pants or a dress. Add your plainest top and one layer, like a jacket. You usually have enough clothes. The hard part is that there are too many choices.

Is there an app that tells me what to wear today?

Yes. Closet apps suggest outfits from the clothes you add. Ukti gives you one outfit a day from your own clothes, shows it in a picture of you, and tells you why it works.

How can I choose my outfit faster?

Choose the night before. Keep two or three go-to outfits. Try on only one outfit. You get faster when you have fewer choices.
