What is a face rating app?

It is an app that looks at a photo of you and gives a score. Some apps score only your face. Some also score your skin, your hair and your grooming.

People use these apps for one reason. They want an honest answer to the question "How do I look?"

What these apps look at

An app can only see what is in the photo. Most apps look at things like these:

  • Skin. Is it clear and even? Are there dark circles?
  • Hair. Is it neat? Does the cut suit the face?
  • Grooming. Eyebrows, beard, lips.
  • Face shape. How the parts of the face balance each other.

The app uses AI. The AI has seen many photos, and it compares your photo with what it has learned.

Why the same face gets different scores

What changedWhat it does to the photo
LightLight from above makes dark shadows under the eyes. Daylight from a window is kind.
Camera angleA camera held low makes the chin look bigger. Eye level is best.
DistanceA camera too close makes the nose look bigger.
ExpressionA tense face looks older than a relaxed one.
SleepOne bad night shows under the eyes.
FiltersA filter changes your skin. Then the score is not about you.

So a score is an estimate. It is not a fact about you.

What a score cannot tell you

  • It cannot see how you move, how you talk or how you smile at people.
  • It cannot see if you are kind, or funny, or good company.
  • It cannot tell you your worth. No app can.

How people see you in real life depends on much more than one photo.

How to use a score in a good way

  1. Compare with yourself only. Is your score better than last month? That is the only question that helps.
  2. Take the photo the same way each time. Same place, same light, same time of day.
  3. Work on what you can change. Skin care, sleep, a haircut, grooming, posture.
  4. Do not check every day. Looks change slowly. Once a week is enough.
  5. Stop if it makes you feel bad. A score should help you. If it hurts, put the app away.

What to look for in an app

  • It tells you what to do. A number alone does not help.
  • It explains how it scores.
  • It checks the photo. A blurry photo or a photo with a filter should be refused.
  • It is clear that it is not medical advice.
  • It lets you delete your photos and your account.

How Ukti does it

Ukti is our app. It has a weekly Look score.

  • You take two photos, one from the front and one from the side.
  • Ukti reads four parts: your face, your skin, your hair and your grooming. A full-length photo adds a score for your body.
  • It shows the one part where you can gain points fastest this week, with a short list of things to do.
  • It checks your photos. If one is blurry or has a filter, it tells you why and asks for a new one.
  • A note in the app, called "How we score", explains the score. It says the score is guidance, not medical advice.

You get a new score once a week. So you can see what changes. Read how to take progress photos you can compare.

Be careful

This guide is general advice. It is not medical advice. If you are worried about your skin or your health, please see a doctor. If a score makes you feel very sad, stop using it and talk to someone you trust.

Common questions

Are face rating apps accurate?

They are an estimate, not a fact. The same face can get different scores in different light, at a different angle or with a different expression. A score is most useful when you compare your own photos over time, taken the same way.

What do face rating apps look at?

Most look at what a photo can show: your skin, your hair, your grooming, and the shape and balance of your face. Many of these change with care, sleep and a good haircut.

Why did I get a low score?

Often it is the photo, not you. Bad light, a low camera angle, a blurry picture or a tired day all lower a score. Take the photo again in daylight, at eye level, with a relaxed face.

How does Ukti rate my look?

Once a week you take a front photo and a side photo. Ukti reads your face, skin, hair and grooming, and gives a score for each part. It then shows the one part to work on, with a short list of things to do.
