What does a personal stylist app do?
A stylist app does three jobs.
- It keeps a list of your clothes, in photos.
- It puts your clothes together into outfits.
- It helps you decide what to wear today.
Many apps do the first job well. Fewer do the third. Before you choose, think about which job you need most.
Five things to check
- Does it use your own clothes? Some apps show outfits made from clothes in shops. That is shopping, not styling. A stylist app should start from what you own.
- Does it work with Indian clothes? If you wear kurtas, sarees or lehengas, check that you can add them and that the app uses them.
- How many choices does it give? Some apps show many outfits and you pick. Some give you one. If choosing is your problem, fewer is better.
- What happens to your photos? Read the privacy page. Can you delete your photos and your account?
- What does it cost? Check the price in the app before you pay. Check how to cancel.
Dressing in India has its own needs
- Heat and AC. It is hot outside and cold in the office. See our guide to office wear in India.
- Monsoon. For months, you need clothes and shoes that can get wet.
- Indian and Western together. Many people wear both in one week, or in one outfit.
- Weddings and festivals. You need festive clothes many times a year. See our guide to wedding guest outfits in India.
An app that styles from your own photos handles all of this, because it works with what is really in your wardrobe.
How Ukti works
Ukti is our app. It is made in Bangalore, and it is on the App Store and Google Play.
- You add your clothes. Take photos of them. You can lay a few out and take one photo. Ukti finds each item.
- You get one outfit a day. Every morning Ukti picks one outfit from your clothes and tells you why it works.
- You see it on you. The outfit comes as a picture of you wearing it, made with AI from your photos.
- You get outfits for any day. Pick the occasion, like work, a date or a wedding. Ukti builds three outfits from your own clothes.
- You can talk to it. Tell it about your day, by voice or by typing.
- It scores your look once a week. From two photos, with steps to improve.
- It reads your skin once a week. You take a selfie and get care steps. This is not medical advice.
- It does not sell you clothes. If it suggests something you do not own, it gives you a link to a shop.
Ukti uses AI to look at your photos and choose. It has no ads, no feed and no friends list.
Who is Ukti not for?
We want to be honest. Ukti does not have a calendar to plan outfits for future days. It does not make packing lists. It does not add clothes from shop websites.
If you want those things, another closet app may suit you better. Our guide to styling apps compares them.
How to start
Get the app. Take photos of the clothes you wear most. You do not need to add everything on day one. Start with about ten items and add more later.
