What to wear in Jaipur in winter

Jaipur's winter days are sunny and mild, and the cold comes early in the morning and after dark. A normal January day goes from 8.4°C in the early morning to 22.5°C in the afternoon. Dress for the afternoon, and bring a sweater and a light jacket for the two cold ends of the day.

The short answer

In the afternoon you need only a T-shirt, a shirt or a kurta, which is a long tunic, with long pants.

The early morning and the night need more. From the middle of December to the middle of February, that means two warm things: a sweater, and over it a light padded jacket or a thick shawl. In November, early December and late February, the sweater is enough.

Jaipur's winter in numbers

India's weather office keeps a table of normal temperatures for Jaipur. Here are its lows and highs for the four months.

MonthLow and highWhat that means
November14.4°C to 29.6°CWarm days. A sweater late in the evening.
December9.9°C to 25.1°CMild in the sun. Cold once it is dark.
January8.4°C to 22.5°CThe coldest month. Cold at both ends of the day.
February12°C to 26.1°CWarm by day. Cool early and late.

By the weather office's own dates, winter here runs from the middle of December to the middle of February.

A normal low is an average, so some mornings are colder. On Sunday, 25 January 2026, Jaipur recorded 5.6°C in the morning. The office's long record counts a cold wave on about six days in a normal winter.

Why Jaipur is not Delhi

If you are also going to Delhi, one suitcase has to work for both cities. Pack for Delhi, and Jaipur is covered. The temperatures are close: a normal January day in New Delhi runs from 7.5°C to 20.1°C. The fog is different. The weather office counts fog on 21.6 days in a normal New Delhi January, and on 2.5 days in Jaipur.

In Jaipur the sky is mainly clear on about seven winter days in ten, by the office's long record. So expect mornings almost as cold as Delhi's, afternoons a little warmer, and far less fog. For Delhi itself, see what to wear in Delhi in winter.

The two cold times

The weather office finds the coldest moment of a winter day in Jaipur at about 7 to 8 am, and the warmest between 3 and 4 pm. It calls the days "cool and pleasant" and the nights "very cold". So there are two times to dress for, with a mild stretch between them.

TimeWhat it is likeWear
Early morningThe coldest hour. Sunrise outings and early trains start now.A T-shirt, a sweater, and a light padded jacket or a thick shawl. Closed shoes and socks.
Late morning to late afternoonMild, and warmer in the sun.A T-shirt, a shirt or a kurta. The sweater goes in your bag.
After darkCold again, and colder if you sit still outside. The sweater, then the jacket or the shawl. A scarf for a rooftop dinner.

Do you need thermals, gloves and a heavy coat?

Some packing lists for Jaipur ask for a lot. One shopping site's guide for December lists two or three sets of thermal innerwear, and calls gloves and caps must-haves. For most visitors that is too much: the normal December low is about 10°C, and the afternoons reach 25°C.

  • Thermals. A thermal top is a thin warm layer that you wear under your clothes. One helps in two cases: you will be out before 8 am in late December or January, or you will sit outdoors for hours at night. In the afternoon you will be too warm in it.
  • Gloves and a wool cap. Only if you ride a scooter or a motorbike early in the morning, or you always feel the cold.
  • A heavy coat. No. The sweater with a light padded jacket or a thick wool shawl over it is enough.

Check the forecast the night before. On a cold-wave morning, wear the thermal top, the sweater and the jacket together.

At the forts, and out in the evening

A day at the forts and palaces. Jaipur's forts sit on hills in and around the city, and much of a visit is outdoors. Wear jeans or loose pants, a T-shirt and sneakers with a good grip, and start with the sweater on. The sky is usually clear, so take sunglasses and a cap.

An evening out. A shirt or a kurta with the sweater, and the jacket or the shawl on top. For a rooftop dinner, wear closed shoes and socks.

A wedding or a party outdoors. You will sit still in the cold for hours, so plan the warm layer as part of the outfit. Our guide to wedding guest outfits in India covers each event.

What to pack

For a week between the middle of December and the middle of February:

  • For the day: five T-shirts, shirts or kurtas, two pairs of jeans or loose pants, and sneakers you can walk in all day.
  • For the cold ends of the day: two sweaters, one light padded jacket or one thick wool shawl, a scarf and socks.
  • For the sun: sunglasses, a cap, sunscreen and lip balm.
  • Maybe: one thin thermal top. See the part on thermals above.
  • Leave at home: the heavy coat and the umbrella. The weather office counts less than one rainy day in a normal December or January.

Going in November, early December or late February? The thermal top and the padded jacket can stay at home too. For a trip that goes on to real cold, see our packing guide for a cold trip.

Ukti is our app. If you live in Jaipur, it can do this work each morning: it shows the weather where you are and picks one outfit for it from your own clothes. You can tell it that you feel colder, or warmer, than the forecast.
